Extractions
Dr. Justin makes every effort to preserve your natural teeth. However, extractions are necessary when decay has made the tooth unsalvageable or when you have an advanced periodontal disease. When a tooth is malformed, damaged, impacted or ingrown, different procedures are used, but all extractions are considered surgery. Depending on which tooth is removed, we can offer you a replacement in the form of a dental implant or oral prosthetic.
FAQ
What should I expect during an extraction procedure?
Once you are numb, you shouldn't feel anything other than pressure. Dr. Justin takes his time to remove all teeth as atraumatically as possible.
How long is the healing process?
The first 10-14 days of healing are the most crucial. It is during this time that you will need to avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, forceful spitting, or any other activity that could result in a dry socket. There will always be an indentation or "pot hole" in the gums and bone, but this will become less noticeable with time.
What can I do to calm my nerves before an extraction?
If you are feeling especially nervous about having a tooth pulled our office can provide nitrous oxide gas to help relax you. We can also prescribe oral sedative medication to be taken before dental treatment. For those requiring even more sedation, Dr. Justin is happy to refer you to great oral surgeons in the area.
